Hull & machinery

Our role is to promote the swift and amicable resolution of claims on hull and machinery policies, whether by giving an opinion on liability or by producing a full adjustment of the claim.

We have combined the traditional average adjusters’ independent approach to claims settlement with modern IT methods, providing a service that is flexible and fast. Potential difficulties or areas of dispute are identified at an early stage and dealt with in a non-adversarial manner that safeguards relationships between the parties, and which is cost-effective.

Loss of hire claims

A significant casualty will impair a vessel’s ability to trade, with the result that its revenue stream will be adversely affected, perhaps seriously so in the event of lengthy repair.

We have a wealth of experience in dealing with loss of hire claims and the policy wordings available. Our services include investigation on cause of loss, analysis of the time recoverable under the policy and how the deductible period is to be calculated, recommendations for interim funding by insurers, provision of loss reserves and clear and concise reporting.

Salvage, collision and other liability claims

Liability claims can significantly dispute ship owners and operators’ businesses, unless quickly resolved. We act rapidly, using a non-adversarial approach in mediating and resolving difficult claims by working closely with the principals or their legal representatives.

As part of our service, we quantify and substantiate claims against third parties, calculate values, obtain security and recover claims for salvage, collect agreed salvage payments or awards, adjust claims on marine insurance policies involving salvage, collision, cross liability and other liability claims.

Ship repairers liability

The disruption caused by an accident in a shipyard can severely reduce cash flow and profit margins. Yards may also be liable under repair contracts for penalties for delayed repairs.

Our expert advice will help to minimise the effects of a casualty through the speedy presentation and settlement of insurance claims. We can offer advice to the shipyard, the broker and the insurer on all aspects of the claim.

General Average

General Average is an internationally recognised system of casualty management where intentional losses or expenses are shared and paid for by all those involved in the common maritime adventure.

Our job as General Average Adjusters is to identify the situation and advise the parties on all the steps that need to be taken.
We organise the process of collection of General Average security from the contributing interests, prepare the adjustment according to the terms of the relevant contract of affreightment, and collect contributions due under the adjustment.

Security collections

We provide the special expertise, resources and management required to handle the collection of General Average or Salvage Security on a vessel involving Non-Vessel Operating Common Carriers (NVOCC) and Groupage – Less than Container Load (LCL) consignments where interests are numbered in thousands rather than hundreds demands.

These security collections are made more difficult by the fact that individual members of consortia will produce their own manifests dealing with their own cargo interests and have their own exclusive agents in each loading and discharge port.

Shipbuilder’s risks

Where an accident has occurred, or a problem is detected during the construction of a vessel, shipbuilders face reduced cash flow, pressure on profit margins and customer dissatisfaction.

We offer a comprehensive service to help shipbuilders and their insurers ensure that insurance claims are settled speedily and amicably.

Cruise ship claims

The cruise industry is a high capital venture and operates in an environment of intense competition. It therefore requires a high level of experience and expertise in the marine field to protect the significant levels of investment involved. We offer services both before and after a casualty.
