Philippines claims expected to escalate says Mathew Hessian
InsuranceAsia News interviewed Mathew Hessian last week to discuss claims management following the earthquake in the Philippines. Following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck off Sarangani, Mindanao on 8 June 2026, Charles Taylor and our associate, Senon Insurance Adjusters & Appraisers, are actively on the ground assessing the impact.
"We continue to monitor developments closely and update our assessments as further information becomes available. Charles Taylor is working closely with our associate, Senon Insurance Adjusters & Appraisers, who are actively engaged with insurers, reinsurers, and policyholders."
We are saddened that the human toll is significant and still rising. Authorities have confirmed 61 deaths, more than 1400 injuries, and 40 people are still missing, with over 720,000 individuals affected across the region.
The structural damage has significantly exceeded earlier estimates. Across Mindanao there have been 37 landslides recorded affecting 45 road sections and eight bridges, six of which are nearly impassable. Government data shows nearly 50,000 houses have been damaged as power outages are affecting 48 cities and municipalities, 41 of which remain without electricity.
