Before joining the loss adjusting profession, James trained in the UK Construction Industry as a building surveyor and read Building Surveying at Leeds Beckett University. He thereafter secured a place with a leading UK loss adjusting firm on their graduate training program, before entering their Executive Adjusting team handling both mainstream domestic and commercial losses. James relocated to Hong Kong in 2013 where he has since specialised in Construction & Engineering, gaining extensive experience in handling and managing a wide variety of significant losses in the civil engineering, buildings, rail industry, and constructional plant sectors through nominations on contractors’ annual accounts and major construction Projects, including MTR Projects, Hong Kong International Airport and hotel, casino and commercial projects. As Director of Construction Engineering, James is a loss adjuster handling claims and retains joint responsibility for our overall technical delivery and development of the Hong Kong and Macau operation. James has run seminars and workshops for the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters, Brokers and Insurers on subjects as diverse as the principles and practice of handling of claims under the defects exclusions in CAR policies; the meaning of damage; railway claims; and most recently, case studies of major construction claims arising out of Typhoon Hato. James achieved Chartered Loss Adjuster status in 2016 as an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters. He is an Associate of the International Federation of Adjusting Associations, holds an RICS accredited Building Surveying degree, is BDMA qualified and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Insurers. He was awarded the institute prize from the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters in 2016 for first place in the final exams and was elected as the Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters International Special Interest Group in 2018.
