About This Individual
  • James trained as a Chartered Quantity Surveyor in Ireland getting a prize for first place in that country for his final exams and after practicing for some years took a part time degree in Law at University College Galway after which he specialised in Construction Contractual and Legal claims.

  • He moved to Bristol and worked for a firm doing Surveying alongside provision of legal advice on contract matters and thereafter moved into adjusting in London. During his time in Bristol he also lectured part time in Construction Law while studying Applied Contracts in the University there.

  • After a short while in mainstream adjusting James specialised in Construction and Engineering liability and first party and was the main adjuster for Thames Water Utilities and their Employed Contractors for 7 years.

  • In due course developed skills and knowledge in the full range of Construction and Engineering losses as well as Renewable Energy - both on and offshore-  Professional Indemnity, Latent Defects and Products Liability. He has also undertaken overseas assignments as well as short term secondments to overseas offices when necessary.

  • He moved back to Galway in Ireland in 2004 and since then has been a successful home worker attending the UK Europe and elsewhere as necessary and maintains a strong position in the CTA Construction & Engineering team.

  • James takes a keen interest in developments in Law both at home and abroad as well as providing mentoring to staff within the office particularly in CAR/EAR matters and Professional Indemnity. He is also regularly appointed by clients as an expert Quantity Surveyor to give opinion on quantum of claims and as recently as 2016 was praised by the judge in a judgement heard in the High Court in London.
