Originally from Newcastle upon Tyne, Bob started his sea going career in 1970 as a deck cadet with Hunting Sons of Newcastle. He served on a wide variety of ships ranging from small coasters to super tankers, working his way up to Chief Officer.
Bob started his offshore Natural Resources career in 1978 when he joined Wimpey Marine on their fleet of anchor handling supply vessels, servicing rigs and platforms in the North Sea. Working his way up to master, he served in locations around the world including the Aegean Sea, the Falklands and Eastern Canada.
He came ashore in 1987 and settled in Newfoundland. In 1992, he was recruited by Bateman Chapman Limited to head up their St. John’s branch, opened originally to serve Insurers of the Hibernia Construction Project.
