Our Services

Our chemists and scientists provide expert advice on:

Cargoes: Liquid and dry cargo contamination claims

LCC provides chemical consultancy to the global marine industry, particularly worldwide forensic investigation on quality disputes for shipments of petroleum products, chemicals, vegetable oils, coal, ores and other dry bulk cargoes.

Bunkers quality disputes

At LCC we have over 80 years’ experience of investigating and handling bunker claims and associated engine damage disputes. In cases of dispute, our chemists and master mariners will assist by providing advice on sampling and testing procedures.

Expert witnessing

Providing expert witnessing in courts and arbitrations all around the world is part of our chemists’ day-to-day activity.

Cargo tanks/holds suitability to load assessment

Our chemists have in depth knowledge of the chemical composition of a vast number of different cargoes. We are often asked to travel wordlwide to perform tanks and holds cleanliness inspections to load all kinds of petroleum and chemical cargoes, and any dry cargo mentioned in the IMSBC Code. LCC experts ensure the ship meets the governing charter party’s conditions on cargo quality and consider all relevant factors, such as their coating condition, and previous cargo residues’ possible chemical reactions with ensuing cargoes.

IMSBC Code cargo compliance

Our chemists and marine surveyors are frequently asked by shippers and shipowners to advise on the compliance of pre-loading documentation to the IMSBC Code. They also fly to loading ports to ensure that sampling procedures meet the code rules and that cargo tests are reliable. Grain, coal and mineral ore cargoes represent the vast majority of cases on which our clients have sought advice for over 80 years. Our chemists also board vessels worldwide to provide expert measurements of gasses accumulating inside cargo holds.
