Beirut Explosion

Beirut Explosion

05 August 2020

A powerful explosion took place in the Port of Beirut on Tuesday 04 August 2020 shortly before 18:00hrs local time (15:00hrs GMT). Tragically, Lebanon’s Health Ministry said that at least 100 people were killed and over 4,000 suffered injuries.

The damage to the immediate vicinity of the blast is reported to be severe, with damage being reported as much as 15 miles away from the Port, including damage to the downtown area of Beirut. The blast took place near structures identified as warehouses on maps, next to Beirut Port Silos building and this structure has sustained major damage.

The cause of the explosion is currently under the early stages of investigation by Lebanese Authorities. Initial reports suggest this could be an industrial accident, however, this remains to be confirmed.
